NanaZip
Also called nana zip, nanazip 7-zip fork
A modern 7-Zip fork with Windows 11 context-menu support. The process is NanaZip.exe. It is not the 7-zip.org build.
What you need to know
NanaZip is a 7-Zip fork. 7-zip.org is still Igor Pavlov's product.
M2-Team's NanaZip keeps 7-Zip's engine and updates the Windows 11 context menu. Get it from GitHub or the Microsoft Store listing the team documents. Installing NanaZip does not replace 7-Zip unless you uninstall the old one.
- What is it?
- A 7-Zip fork for current Windows
- Same as 7-Zip?
- No. Different package and menu
- Windows 11 menu?
- Yes. That is the usual reason to install it
What is NanaZip?
NanaZip is M2-Team's 7-Zip-derived archiver. The Windows 11 menu uses a sparse package. That packaging is why it is not 7zFM.exe from 7-zip.org.
If you have never used it
If 7-Zip vanished from the Windows 11 right-click menu, NanaZip is the fork that puts extract back on that menu. Install it from the M2-Team GitHub or the Store page they link. It still speaks 7z. It is not Igor Pavlov's 7-Zip installer and it is not WinRAR.
What is it used for?
Same everyday job as 7-Zip. The fork is about packaging and the menu, not a new container name.
NanaZip registers a modern context-menu package. Classic 7-Zip often lands under "Show more options".
M2-Team documents both. A random NanaZip.exe on a forum is not their signed package.
Who is it for?
- Windows 11 users who want 7-Zip features on the first right-click menu
- People who already know 7z and do not want WinRAR
- Anyone comparing this fork to peazip.github.io
Current status
NanaZip (2021) is a current archive utility from M2-Team. The vendor still points Windows users at https://github.com/M2Team/NanaZip.
How old is it?
NanaZip started in 2021 after Windows 11 changed context menus. It is new next to 7-Zip (1999) and WinRAR (1995). If a guide still says to install only 7-zip.org for the Windows 11 menu, it may be stale.

System requirements
Values follow the publisher's public guidance. Workload still changes the real need.
Minimum
| Operating system | Windows 10 or Windows 11, per M2-Team. The modern menu is a Windows 11 reason to install it |
|---|---|
| RAM | Enough for Windows plus this app. Heavy projects want more. |
Resource profile
- CPU demand
- High on ultra 7z, same idea as 7-Zip
- RAM demand
- Follows dictionary size

These executables belong to this product when it is installed.
| NanaZip.exe | File manager |
|---|---|
| NanaZip.Modern.exe | Windows 11 context-menu host on some builds |
Startup components
NanaZip should not start at logon. The context-menu package loads when Explorer asks, not as a tray app.

Common problems
Two 7-Zip-like apps on the menu
Uninstall one if both 7-Zip and NanaZip registered extract. They are separate products.
Store install will not run a random portable 7z.dll you dropped in
Update from M2-Team. Do not mix Pavlov's folder into the Store package.
Getting unstuck
Install from the M2-Team GitHub or the Store page they link
A "NanaZip Pro" exe host is not the fork. 7-zip.org remains the official Pavlov build if you wanted that instead.
If the Windows 11 menu is empty, reboot Explorer after install
The sparse package registers with the shell. That is NanaZip packaging, not a PeaZip setting.
Do not delete 7-Zip to "upgrade" unless you meant to switch
NanaZip does not silently replace 7-zip.org. Remove the one you do not want from Settings > Apps.
Alternatives
7-Zip is the upstream. PeaZip is a different UI that can call 7z. WinRAR is shareware RAR.

Related hardware
Same class of need as 7-Zip: CPU and disk during compress. The new menu does not need a better GPU.
