What is Lightshot?

Lightshot.exe hooks Print Screen and can upload to Skillbrains' prntscr hosts. ShareX.exe is the open-source suite with optional destinations. Uploading is the usual Lightshot caution.

If you have never used it

If Print Screen opens a small overlay and can upload to prntscr.com, Lightshot is Skillbrains' tool. Download it from app.prntscr.com. Uploaded shots can be public. It is not ShareX, not Greenshot, and not Snipping Tool.

Current status

Lightshot (2007) is a current screenshot tool from Skillbrains. The vendor still points Windows users at https://app.prntscr.com/.

How old is it?

Lightshot dates to 2007. ShareX grew into a workflow suite. Snipping Tool is the in-box Windows app. Lightshot stayed a simple overlay plus the prntscr upload path.

Quit Lightshot or change its hotkey. Greenshot can steal the same key.

Getting unstuck

Install from app.prntscr.com

A "Lightshot Pro" pack is not Skillbrains. ShareX is at getsharex.com if you wanted the open-source suite.

Turn off upload in Lightshot preferences if you only want the clipboard

That is the privacy fix. Snipping Tool is already local.

If Print Screen stopped opening Snipping Tool, quit Lightshot from the tray

One hook owns the key. Flameshot is another third-party hook if you installed that too.

Alternatives
