iCloud for Windows
Also called icloud windows, apple icloud
Apple's Windows client for photos, iCloud Drive, and passwords. The process is iCloud.exe. It is not OneDrive.
What you need to know
iCloud for Windows is Apple. OneDrive is Microsoft.
iCloud.exe syncs Photos, Drive, and passwords for an Apple ID. OneDrive.exe will not see that Apple account. Stacking both on the same Pictures folder duplicates work.

What is iCloud for Windows?
iCloud for Windows is Apple's sync client. iCloud.exe is the Windows process. It can sync Photos, iCloud Drive, bookmarks, and passwords. OneDrive is a different vendor.
If you have never used it
If you want iPhone photos, iCloud Drive files, or iCloud Passwords on a Windows PC, this is iCloud for Windows, not OneDrive. Install it from Apple's iCloud for Windows article or the Microsoft Store listing Apple publishes. OneDrive.exe is Microsoft and can also own Documents. Two clouds on Pictures is how duplicates happen.
What is it used for?
iCloud Photos on this PC. OneDrive camera backup is a different folder and account.
Apple's cloud folder. It is not Known Folder Move and not C:\Users\<you>\OneDrive.
Apple Keychain-related passwords in a Windows companion. Microsoft's password manager is a different vault.
Who is it for?
- People who own an iPhone and a Windows PC
- Users who need iCloud Drive on Explorer
- Anyone who should not let OneDrive and iCloud both own Pictures
Current status
Actively developed as a Microsoft Store app. This article is iCloud for Windows, not iCloud.com in a browser alone.
How old is it?
Apple shipped iCloud for Windows in the 2010s so Windows PCs could see an Apple ID. OneDrive is Microsoft's 2007-era client. They never shared a folder. An old iCloud Control Panel from Apple.com is the ancestor of the Store app.
Versions

Common problems
Photos duplicated with OneDrive
Turn off one camera backup. iCloud Photos and OneDrive backup are different switches.
Old Control Panel leftover
Apple moved many PCs to the Store app. An ancient iCloudSetup.exe from a blog is stale.
Getting unstuck
Install from Apple's iCloud for Windows page or the Store listing Apple links
A "iCloud Windows download" search ad is the wrong file. OneDrive's download page is the sibling people swap.
Sign in with an Apple ID, not a Microsoft account
A Microsoft login opens OneDrive. iCloud.exe wants Apple.
Pause iCloud Photos before you debug a full disk
A first photo download can be huge. That is Apple's library, not Known Folder Move.
Alternatives
OneDrive, Google Drive, and iCloud.com in a browser overlap. OneDrive is the sibling this article is not.
