heroic.exe is a community client. Epic’s support will not repair it. Fortnite and some titles still need EpicGamesLauncher.exe.

What is Heroic Games Launcher?

Heroic is a community launcher for Epic and GOG. heroic.exe installs titles those stores already sold you. It is not Epic Games, Inc.’s product.

If you have never used it

If you want an open-source window for Epic and GOG libraries, this is Heroic. Download it from heroicgameslauncher.com. Sign in with those store accounts. It is not Epic’s official launcher. Fortnite’s supported path is still EpicGamesLauncher.exe. Heroic talks to Epic and GOG APIs through community backends. GOG’s official client is Galaxy. Steam is not this app.

What is it used for?

Unofficial Epic library

List Epic purchases without EpicGamesLauncher.exe. Fortnite and some anti-cheat titles still want the official client.

GOG without Galaxy

Install GOG titles through Heroic. Offline installers on gog.com remain the official archive path.

Wine-style extras on other OS notes

The project is known for Linux and Wine talk. This wiki article is the Windows exe only.

Current status

Heroic Games Launcher (2021) is a current unofficial store launcher from Heroic. The vendor still points Windows users at https://heroicgameslauncher.com/.

How old is it?

Heroic started around 2021 as a Legendary-based Epic client, then added GOG. It is newer than the 2018 Epic Games Store and exists because people wanted a lighter unofficial shell. An official Epic help article will not mention heroic.exe.

Use Epic’s official launcher. Heroic cannot promise every EGS title.

Login token expired

Re-auth inside Heroic. Epic’s password reset page is the account, not this exe’s bug tracker.

Getting unstuck

Install from heroicgameslauncher.com

The project hosts Windows builds. A random heroic.exe is the wrong file.

Fall back to EpicGamesLauncher.exe or a GOG offline installer

Those are the vendor paths when Heroic cannot start a title.
