GlassWire

ApplicationSecureMix

Also called glass wire, glasswire firewall

SecureMixSecurity

A network monitor with a graph and an optional firewall. The window is GlassWire.exe. It is not Resource Monitor.

What you need to know

GlassWire.exe is a graph. resmon.exe is the Windows tool.

GlassWire visualizes per-app network use and can add a firewall. Resource Monitor is built into Windows. ZoneAlarm is an older firewall brand. This is not Defender.

What is it?
Network graph plus optional firewall
Same as Resource Monitor?
No. resmon.exe is the Windows tool
Antivirus?
No
Feex says
If you wanted Resource Monitor, I would type resmon. GlassWire is a third-party graph. If you also turned on its firewall, I would pick one firewall owner so Windows Firewall is not fighting it.

What is GlassWire?

GlassWire is a network monitor with an optional firewall. GlassWire.exe is the UI. Resource Monitor is a different Windows tool.

If you have never used it

If you want a pretty graph of which app just used the network, this is GlassWire, not Resource Monitor. Download it from glasswire.com. GlassWire.exe is the window. resmon.exe is the Windows tool. GlassWire can also act as a firewall. Two firewalls with Windows Firewall is the usual fight. This is not an antivirus.

What is it used for?

See who talked on the network

The graph names apps. Resource Monitor's Network tab is the in-box version without this skin.

Optional firewall

Paid GlassWire can block apps. Windows Firewall is still there. Two policies can fight.

Alerts for new connections

A new exe talking on the network can pop. That is GlassWire, not Defender.

Who is it for?

  • People who want a graph instead of resmon.exe
  • Users who turned on the GlassWire firewall and still have Windows Firewall on
  • Anyone who thought this was an antivirus

Current status

Actively sold. This article is the Windows app, not a packet capture lab.

How old is it?

GlassWire launched in 2014 as a consumer network visualizer. It is not the Windows 7 Resource Monitor and not ZoneAlarm from 2000. Current builds still sell Free and paid SKUs.

System requirements

Values follow the publisher's public guidance. Workload still changes the real need.

Minimum

Minimum system requirements
Operating system Windows 10 or Windows 11, per GlassWire
RAM Light UI. History size follows how long you keep logs

Resource profile

CPU demand
Low while graphing
Disk demand
Connection history

Installed processes

These executables belong to this product when it is installed.

Installed processes
GlassWire.exe Monitor UI. Not resmon.exe
GWCtlSrv.exe GlassWire control service on many installs

Startup components

GlassWire can start with Windows to keep the graph. That is an app setting.

File locations

Common GlassWire locations
Typical install C:\Program Files (x86)\GlassWire\

Common problems

Two firewalls

GlassWire firewall plus Windows Firewall can block the same app twice. Pick an owner.

People treat the graph as proof of malware

A backup client will look loud. The graph is traffic, not a Feex verdict.

Getting unstuck

Compare with resmon.exe if you doubt the graph

Resource Monitor > Network. Same PC, in-box tool.

Disable the GlassWire firewall if Windows Firewall already owns policy

Monitoring can stay. Two blockers are the fight.

Install from glasswire.com

A "GlassWire pro crack" host is not SecureMix.

Alternatives

Resource Monitor if you want the in-box graph. ZoneAlarm if you wanted that older firewall brand. Windows Security for the Windows Firewall page.
