MUSNotificationUx.exe
Also called musnotificationux, windows update ux, mus notification ux
Newer Windows Update notification UX. It draws update and restart UI. UsoClient.exe is the Update Orchestrator command line, not this window.
What you need to know
MUSNotificationUx is the update UX, not UsoClient.
MUSNotificationUx.exe is a later Windows Update notification surface. UsoClient.exe only kicks scan, download, or restart verbs. Ending the UX does not cancel a StartScan task.
- Safe?
- Yes, with Windows Update
- Same as UsoClient?
- No. UsoClient is the CLI
- Should I end it?
- The update UI closes
What is MUSNotificationUx.exe?
MUSNotificationUx.exe is the update UX, not UsoClient.exe. MUSNotification.exe is an older toast helper. MoUsoCoreWorker.exe still does orchestrator work.
What does it do?
It shows update-ready and restart UI. It does not issue StartScan. Scheduled tasks call UsoClient.exe for that.
Why is it running?
An update is ready, a deadline is near, or Update showed a richer notice than a balloon. The process should exit when the UI closes.
Is it safe?
Usually safe
System32 MUSNotificationUx.exe is Microsoft. A Ux exe in Downloads is not. UsoClient.exe is still the CLI.
A legitimate copy normally runs from:
C:\Windows\System32\MUSNotificationUx.exe
- Update UX
- CLI sibling: UsoClient.exe
- Older helper: MUSNotification.exe
Can I end it?
Closes the notice
Ending MUSNotificationUx.exe hides the UX. UsoClient tasks and MoUsoCoreWorker can keep going. Pause updates in Settings if you need the network.
Can I remove it?
No
Do not delete MUSNotificationUx.exe. Do not delete UsoClient.exe to stop notices. Use Pause updates.
Should it start with Windows?
Windows Update starts it for a notice. It is not Startup Apps.
Normal resource behavior
These are contextual labels, not universal averages.
- CPU
- Low while the UI is up
- Memory
- Small to moderate for a UX host
- Disk
- None for the dialog
- Network
- None by itself

Common problems
People disable UpdateOrchestrator tasks to kill this UI
That blocks quality updates. Pause is the supported delay. UsoClient.exe is the task action, not this UX.
Two MUS names
MUSNotification.exe is the older helper. This is the newer UX. Neither downloads the payload.
Troubleshooting
Diagnose before you change anything destructive.
Settings > Windows Update for pause and restart time
That is the control. UsoClient.exe on a task is only the verb.
Open file location
System32 is expected. Do not replace the UX from a zip.
