MUSNotification.exe
Also called musnotification, windows update notification, mus notification
Windows Update notification UX helper. It shows update toasts and restart prompts. MoUsoCoreWorker.exe does orchestrator work. UsoClient.exe is the command line.
What you need to know
MUSNotification is update toast UX, not the orchestrator worker.
MUSNotification.exe is a Windows Update notification helper. MoUsoCoreWorker.exe is the Update Session Orchestrator worker. Ending the toast does not pause downloads.
- Safe?
- Yes, with Windows Update
- Does it download updates?
- No. The orchestrator worker does that work
- Should I end it?
- The toast closes
What is MUSNotification.exe?
MUSNotification.exe is update toast UX, not the orchestrator worker. MoUsoCoreWorker.exe keeps the USO session moving. UsoClient.exe is the verb host scheduled tasks call.
What does it do?
It shows that an update is ready or that Windows wants a restart. It does not apply CBS. That is TiWorker. Newer surfaces can use MUSNotificationUx.exe instead.
Why is it running?
Windows Update has a notice, or a restart deadline is near. The helper should exit after you dismiss or act on the toast.
Is it safe?
Usually safe
System32 MUSNotification.exe is Microsoft. A MUSNotification.exe in Temp is not. The worker is still MoUsoCoreWorker.exe.
A legitimate copy normally runs from:
C:\Windows\System32\MUSNotification.exe
- Update toast UX
- Orchestrator worker: MoUsoCoreWorker.exe
- Newer UX: MUSNotificationUx.exe
Can I end it?
Hides the toast
Ending MUSNotification.exe closes the notice. Downloads and orchestration can continue. Pause updates in Settings if you need time.
Can I remove it?
No
Do not delete MUSNotification.exe. Active hours and Pause updates are the supported controls. Do not delete MoUsoCoreWorker.exe to silence toasts.
Should it start with Windows?
Windows Update starts it when there is a notice. It is not a chat Startup app.

Common problems
People end MoUsoCoreWorker because a toast is annoying
That can abort an update session. This process is only UX.
Toast gone, update still downloading
Expected. Check Windows Update in Settings. UsoClient and the worker are the other names.
Troubleshooting
Diagnose before you change anything destructive.
Settings > Windows Update
Pause or pick a restart time. Ending this exe is not a pause.
Split MUSNotificationUx from this helper
Newer Windows may show MUSNotificationUx.exe for the same job. Neither is UsoClient.exe.
