What is AccountsControlHost.exe?
AccountsControlHost.exe is the Windows Accounts Control experience. It lives under SystemApps, not System32.
What does it do?
It collects account details and hands them to the account infrastructure. CredentialUIBroker.exe may still show a WAM prompt on top.
Why is it running?
You opened Accounts in Settings, or an app started Add account. The host should exit when the wizard closes.
Is it safe?
Usually safe
The Microsoft AccountsControl package is expected. An AccountsControlHost.exe in Temp is not Settings.
A legitimate copy normally runs from:
C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.AccountsControl_*\AccountsControlHost.exe
- SystemApps package
- Opened from Settings Accounts
- Not Isolated LSA
Can I end it?
Closes the wizard
Ending AccountsControlHost.exe aborts the add-account sheet. Accounts already on the PC stay. SystemSettings.exe can still open.
Can I remove it?
No
Do not delete the AccountsControl package. Repair or reset Settings if the add-account page will not open.
Should it start with Windows?
On demand from Settings or an app. Not a tray.
