YouTube Music
Also called yt music, youtube music pwa
YouTube's music service on Windows. The official app is a PWA or Store wrapper. The process is often YouTube Music.exe. It is not Spotify.
What you need to know
YouTube Music on Windows is a PWA or Store wrapper. Spotify is a different client.
The official path is music.youtube.com plus an install-as-app step, or a Store wrapper. Third-party desktop shells are not Google’s product.
- What is it?
- YouTube's music service in a desktop window
- Official Windows app?
- A PWA or Store wrapper, not a classic installer
- Same as Spotify?
- No. Google account and catalog
What is YouTube Music?
YouTube Music on Windows is Google’s music catalog in a dedicated window. YouTube Music.exe is usually a browser-app wrapper, not a unique decoder stack.
If you have never used it
If your music already lives on a Google account and YouTube Music, the official Windows window is a PWA or Store wrapper around music.youtube.com. Open that site in Edge or Chrome and use Install, or take the Store listing Google publishes. There is no classic Win32 installer like Spotify’s. It is not Spotify. Uploads and YouTube-side mixes are the Google locker.
What is it used for?
Play the locker tied to your Google account. Spotify cannot see those playlists.
Install from music.youtube.com in Edge or Chrome, or from the Store wrapper. Spotify still ships a separate desktop exe story.
Premium changes background and download rules Google documents. That is an account tier, not a codec pack.
Who is it for?
- People who already live in YouTube Music on the phone
- Users who want a dedicated window without Spotify
- Anyone who should skip third-party Electron YouTube Music clients
Current status
YouTube Music (2018) is a current music streaming from Google LLC. The vendor still points Windows users at https://music.youtube.com/.
How old is it?
YouTube Music replaced Google Play Music for most people around 2020 after a 2018 launch. It is newer than Spotify 2008. A Play Music desktop manager article is a dead product, not this PWA.

Common problems
Unofficial Electron wrappers
Those reuse the name. Google’s path is the site or the Store wrapper.
Looks like a browser
That is expected. It is a PWA. Spotify’s desktop client is a different architecture.
Getting unstuck
Install from music.youtube.com in Edge or Chrome
Browser > Install app. That is the official desktop window. A GitHub YouTube Music client is not this article.
Sign in with the Google account that holds Premium
A different login will miss downloads. That is not a Windows Media codec.
Repair the Store wrapper if that is what you installed
Microsoft Store > YouTube Music > Repair. Confirm the publisher is Google.
Alternatives
Spotify or Apple Music if that is the catalog you already pay for. The YouTube website if you do not want a dedicated window.
Official help and downloads
Start with the vendor. Random exe sites are not a support channel.
| Download | music.youtube.com/ Official installer or vendor page |

| Official site | music.youtube.com/ Start here, not a random exe host |
Related hardware
A working headset is enough. The wrapper still uses the browser engine’s RAM.
