Viber Desktop is Rakuten Viber's Windows client. You activate it with the phone app. The executable is Viber.exe.
If you have never used it
If someone said Viber me, this is Rakuten Viber, not WhatsApp. It is a phone-number messenger with a Windows app. Download it from viber.com/download. The process is Viber.exe. WhatsApp.exe is a different vendor.
What is it used for?
Threads follow the Viber account. This is not SMS in Phone Link.
Voice and video in the desktop window. WhatsApp calls are a different network.
Viber communities are a Viber feature, not a Discord server.
Who is it for?
- People whose family already lives on Viber
- Users in regions where Viber is the default phone messenger
- Anyone who installed it and still looks for WhatsApp.exe
Current status
Viber (2010) is a current chat from Rakuten Viber. The vendor still points Windows users at https://www.viber.com/download/.
How old is it?
Viber launched in 2010 and later became part of Rakuten. It is newer than Skype and about the same age as WhatsApp. The Windows desktop client is a companion, not a 1990s PC-only IM.

Wrong exe. Viber.exe is this product.

A Viber plus stickers pack is junk.

help.viber.com documents the QR flow.
Quit from the Viber tray icon
Closing the window can leave Viber.exe resident.
Alternatives
WhatsApp or Signal if the group already moved. LINE or KakaoTalk if that is the regional default instead.
