ungoogled-chromium
Also called ungoogled chromium, eloston chromium
A Chromium build that strips Google integration. On Windows the process is still chrome.exe.
What you need to know
ungoogled-chromium is not Google Chrome, even when the exe says chrome.exe.
Community patches remove Google integration from Chromium. The process name stays chrome.exe. Official Chrome has an updater and Google services.

What is ungoogled-chromium?
ungoogled-chromium is a community Chromium that removes Google web-service hooks. Windows builds still launch as chrome.exe.
If you have never used it
If you want Chromium without Google services, this is ungoogled-chromium, not Google Chrome. Binaries are listed on the project GitHub Pages site. The process is still chrome.exe. Official Chromium snapshots are a different build. Google Chrome under Program Files\Google is the branded product.
What is it used for?
Tabs and extensions without Chrome's Google API integration. Some Chrome features will be missing.
You pick a Windows build from the binaries site. There is no Google updater.
Path and publisher tell it apart from Google Chrome. Task Manager name will not.
Who is it for?
- People who want Chromium without Google account hooks
- Users who already follow the ungoogled-software binaries
- Anyone who confused it with google.com/chrome
Current status
ungoogled-chromium (2015) is a current web browser from Eloston and contributors. The vendor still points Windows users at https://ungoogled-software.github.io/ungoogled-chromium-binaries/.
How old is it?
Eloston started ungoogled-chromium in 2015 as patches on Chromium. It is newer than Chrome (2008). Community binaries lag Chromium slightly. This is not a 2024 AI browser.

Common problems
No Google updater
You must fetch a new community binary. That is the project model, not a broken Windows Update.
Missing Chrome features
Sync, some widevine flows, and Google hooks can be gone. That is the point of the patch set.
Getting unstuck
Open file location on chrome.exe
Google\Chrome is Chrome. An ungoogled-chromium folder is this product. A raw chromium.org snapshot is a third thing.
Use the binaries index, not a random mirror
ungoogled-software.github.io lists Windows builds. A forum repack is the wrong file.
Read the GitHub README for missing features
Do not install Google Chrome on top to "fix" a stripped service. That replaces the product.
Alternatives
Google Chrome if you want the updater and Google account. Official Chromium snapshots if you want unpatched tip-of-tree.
