Current status
Stremio (2016) is a current streaming aggregator from Smart Code. The vendor still points Windows users at https://www.stremio.com/downloads.
How old is it?
Smart Code shipped Stremio in the mid-2010s as an add-on catalog UI. It is newer than Plex 2008 and Kodi’s XBMC line. Community add-ons grew around it. Official FAQ pages are the supported path. A random “full add-on pack” video is not.
Versions

Common problems
Empty board after install
Only official add-ons this article will mention. If a guide wants a zip of unofficial add-ons, stop and use the FAQ.
People treat it as Plex
There is no Plex Media Server behind stremio.exe. Your NAS library is a different product.
Getting unstuck
Install only from stremio.com/downloads
The official Windows build is there. A “Stremio plus add-ons” bundle is the wrong file.
Read stremio.com/faq for playback and add-on errors
Vendor articles cover buffering, rendering, and official add-ons. That is the supported path.
Play a local file you own if you only needed a player
VLC or Plex may be the simpler tool. This app is an aggregator, not a NAS indexer.
Alternatives
Plex or Jellyfin if the files are on your disk. Kodi if you want a living-room UI over folders. VLC if you only open one file.
