Revolt
Also called revolt.chat, revolt desktop
An open-source Discord-like chat. On Windows the process is Revolt.exe.
What you need to know
Revolt is an open-source Discord-like. It is not Discord.
Revolt.exe talks to Revolt or a self-hosted instance. Discord.exe is a different vendor and protocol.

What is Revolt?
Revolt is an open-source community chat client. The Windows executable is Revolt.exe. Developers.revolt.chat covers the API and self-hosting.
If you have never used it
If a group said we moved to Revolt, this is open-source Discord-like chat, not Discord. Download it from revolt.chat. The process is Revolt.exe. A discord.gg invite will not join a Revolt server.
What is it used for?
A Discord-like layout on a different network. Discord tokens will not sign you in.
You may be pointed at a custom instance URL. That is Revolt, not discord.com.
Developer docs live on developers.revolt.chat. Discord developer portal is the wrong site.
Who is it for?
- Communities leaving Discord for an open-source client
- Users who were handed a revolt.chat invite
- Anyone who installed it and still looks for Discord.exe
Current status
Revolt (2021) is a current community chat from Revolt. The vendor still points Windows users at https://revolt.chat/.
How old is it?
Revolt launched around 2021 as an open-source Discord alternative. It is much newer than Discord (2015) and TeamSpeak (2001). Current Revolt is still its own protocol.

Common problems
Login aimed at discord.com
Revolt accounts are not Discord accounts. Use the instance the invite names.
People apply Discord overlay fixes
Wrong client. Revolt settings will not name Discord overlay.
Getting unstuck
Install from revolt.chat
A Revolt plus nitro pack is junk.
Read developers.revolt.chat if you were told to self-host
That is instance work, not a Windows repair.
Quit Revolt.exe from the tray
The desktop host can stay resident after the window closes.
Alternatives
Discord if the community never left. Guilded if they picked Roblox's chat instead. TeamSpeak if they only need voice.
Official help and downloads
Start with the vendor. Random exe sites are not a support channel.

Related hardware
A modest CPU is enough for chat. Voice wants a headset.
