An office suite aimed at Microsoft format fidelity and docs servers. The Windows desktop process is DesktopEditors.exe. It is not LibreOffice.

ONLYOFFICE is DesktopEditors.exe. LibreOffice is soffice.exe.

Ascensio ships editors that target Microsoft formats and an optional Docs server. LibreOffice is The Document Foundation's suite. Mixing the two names does not merge the installers.

If the window looks like Word but the process is DesktopEditors.exe, this is ONLYOFFICE, not LibreOffice and not WINWORD. I would not repair Office to fix this installer.

What is ONLYOFFICE?

ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors is Ascensio's Windows app for documents, sheets, and slides. DesktopEditors.exe is the process. LibreOffice uses soffice.exe. They do not share a codebase.

If you have never used it

If you want desktop editors that try to look and save like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, this is ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors, not LibreOffice. Download DesktopEditors from onlyoffice.com/download-desktop.aspx. LibreOffice is an OpenDocument-first suite from TDF. ONLYOFFICE is a different vendor that also sells a Docs server.

DOCX, XLSX, PPTX editing

The desktop app's selling point is Microsoft-format fidelity. LibreOffice can open those files too. This is a different engine.

Connect to an ONLYOFFICE Docs server

Some teams point the desktop client at a self-hosted Docs host. That is not a LibreOffice remote.

Plugins and local files

Edit on disk without a 365 account. A workplace that mandates WINWORD still wants Word.

Current status

Actively developed. Community and Enterprise Desktop Editors exist. This article is the Windows desktop app.

How old is it?

ONLYOFFICE (TeamLab) began around 2009. Desktop Editors are the local window. The Docs server is how some Nextcloud and company sites embed the same editors. It is newer than OpenOffice.org and not a LibreOffice fork.

Different vendor, different exe, different UI. Check DesktopEditors.exe versus soffice.exe.

Server connection fails

The desktop app can work offline. A Docs URL error is a server setting, not a Windows Office repair.

Open file location on DesktopEditors.exe

ONLYOFFICE lives under Program Files\ONLYOFFICE. LibreOffice lives under Program Files\LibreOffice.

A "free Office editors" search ad is the wrong file.

If a workplace file must stay in desktop Word, use Word

Fidelity is the goal, not a guarantee for every macro-enabled template.

Alternatives

LibreOffice, Microsoft 365, and WPS Office overlap. LibreOffice is not this product. Word remains the reference for some work templates.
