Adobe AIR
Also called air runtime, adobe air harman, air sdk runtime
Old app runtime Adobe handed to HARMAN. Some launchers and games still need it. It is not Flash Player.
What you need to know
AIR is a HARMAN runtime now. It is not Flash Player.
Adobe transferred AIR to HARMAN. Some Windows launchers still need the shared runtime. Flash Player is a different, retired product.

What is Adobe AIR?
Adobe AIR runs packaged desktop apps that were built against the AIR runtime. HARMAN maintains the current runtime. Flash Player (.swf in a browser) is a different, retired product.
If you have never used it
If a game or launcher says "install Adobe AIR", get the runtime from airsdk.harman.com. Adobe no longer ships it. This is not Flash Player, and it is not Creative Cloud.
What is it used for?
A setup that still names Adobe AIR. Install the HARMAN runtime, not a Flash bundle.
Captive-runtime apps bundle AIR. Shared-runtime apps need this install.
Flash in the browser is gone. AIR is the desktop runtime HARMAN still posts.
Who is it for?
- People whose old game installer still asks for AIR
- Anyone who almost downloaded Flash to fix an AIR error
- Developers who still build with the HARMAN AIR SDK
Current status
Adobe AIR (2008) is a current legacy app runtime from HARMAN. The vendor still points Windows users at https://airsdk.harman.com/runtime.
How old is it?
Adobe shipped AIR in 2008 next to Flash. In 2019 Adobe handed AIR to HARMAN. Flash Player is retired. AIR is a leftover runtime some Windows apps still call.

System requirements
Values follow the publisher's public guidance. Workload still changes the real need.
Minimum
| Operating system | A current supported Windows 10 or Windows 11 release, per the vendor |
|---|---|
| RAM | Enough for Windows plus this app. Heavy projects want more. |
Resource profile
- CPU demand
- Follows what you open inside the app
- RAM demand
- Follows documents, tabs, or libraries
Installed processes
These executables belong to this product when it is installed.
| Adobe AIR.exe | Main Windows executable |
|---|
Startup components
AIR does not need to start with Windows. An AIR app starts Adobe AIR.exe or its own captive host.
File locations
| Typical install | C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe AIR\ |
|---|
Common problems
Downloaded Flash instead
Flash Player will not satisfy an AIR installer. Use airsdk.harman.com/runtime.
Grabbed an old Adobe AIR 26 exe
HARMAN posts the current runtime. Ancient Adobe-branded setups are stale.
Getting unstuck
Install the runtime from HARMAN, not a Flash archive
airsdk.harman.com/runtime is the current end-user path.
If the app bundles AIR, do not also force a shared runtime
Captive apps already contain the runtime. A second system AIR can still be ignored.
Treat missing AIR as an app dependency, not a GPU failure
The dialog is a runtime, not a DirectX 12 problem.
Alternatives
Flash Player is retired and is the wrong sibling. Modern apps use native installers, Electron, or WebView2.
Official help and downloads

Related hardware
AIR is light. The old game you launch sets the GPU bar. This is not a DirectX 12 feature pack.
