GameInputRedistService.exe
Also called gameinputredistservice, gameinput redist, gameinput redistributable
GameInput redistributable service. Games and older SDKs install this beside the in-box GameInputSvc.exe. Publisher can still show a Windows 7 DDK leftover string.
What you need to know
Redistributable GameInput, not the in-box GameInputSvc.
GameInputRedistService.exe is the redistributable GameInput runtime a game or NuGet package installed. GameInputSvc.exe is the in-box Windows service in System32. A "Windows (R) Win 7 DDK" publisher string on the redist is a known leftover, not proof of a random kernel driver.
- Safe?
- Yes, from a GameInput redist
- Same as GameInputSvc?
- No. That is the in-box service
- Win7 DDK publisher?
- A known leftover string on some builds
What is GameInputRedistService.exe?
GameInputRedistService.exe is redistributable GameInput, not the in-box GameInputSvc.exe. It usually lives under Program Files\Microsoft GameInput or a game folder, not as the everyday System32 service.
What does it do?
It serves titles that shipped a GameInput runtime. The in-box GameInputSvc.exe still exists on current Windows for the OS stack. Game Bar presence is a third name.
Why is it running?
A game installer, Xbox PC bits, or the Microsoft.GameInput package laid down the redist. A PC that never installed a title with that runtime should not need this service.
Is it safe?
Usually safe when it is the redist
A GameInput redist under Program Files or a game folder is expected. The in-box service is GameInputSvc.exe in System32. A Win7 DDK publisher leftover on the redist is not GameInputSvc.
A legitimate copy normally runs from:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft GameInput\GameInputRedistService.exe
- Redistributable, not System32 GameInputSvc.exe
- Some builds show a Windows 7 DDK publisher string
- Exact folder can sit next to a game instead
Can I end it?
That title can lose GameInput
Ending GameInputRedistService.exe can break the game that installed it. In-box GameInputSvc.exe can stay running. Do not treat End task here as turning off Game Bar.
Can I remove it?
Uninstall the redist or the game
Do not delete System32 GameInputSvc.exe to remove this redist. Use Apps & Features for Microsoft GameInput or the game that shipped it.
Should it start with Windows?
The game or the redist installer registers a service. That is not the in-box GameInputSvc start type.

Common problems
Two GameInput services after a game install
In-box GameInputSvc.exe and this redist can coexist. Disable only the redist if you uninstalled the title, not the System32 service.
DDK publisher scares people
Open the path. A Microsoft GameInput folder plus a stale DDK string is a known leftover. GameBarPresenceWriter.exe is still a different helper.
Troubleshooting
Diagnose before you change anything destructive.
Apps & Features: find Microsoft GameInput or the game
That package owns this service. Repair or remove it there. services.msc on GameInputSvc is the in-box stack.
Do not replace the redist with a System32 copy
