What is atiesrxx.exe?
atiesrxx.exe is AMD External Events Utility, not amdfendrsr.exe. AMD drops it in System32 with the graphics package. Crash Defender is a different filename.
What does it do?
It watches external display events so AMD can reconfigure outputs. It does not host Crash Defender. It does not replace Windows display settings.
Why is it running?
An AMD GPU or AMD iGPU stack is installed. Docking, HDMI plug, or a lid switch is when this service matters. An NVIDIA-only desktop should not show this as a Microsoft OS host.
Is it safe?
Usually safe when AMD signed
An AMD-signed atiesrxx in System32 is External Events. atiesrxx.exe in Downloads is not. This is still not amdfendrsr.
A legitimate copy normally runs from:
C:\Windows\System32\atiesrxx.exe
- Service: AMD External Events Utility
- Publisher should be Advanced Micro Devices
- Crash Defender user service is amdfendrsr.exe
Can I end it?
Hotplug and lid events can fail
Ending atiesrxx.exe can leave a docked display stuck. amdfendrsr.exe is unrelated. Restart AMD External Events Utility if outputs go quiet.
Can I remove it?
Uninstall AMD software
Use AMD cleanup or the OEM graphics installer. Do not delete amdfendrsr.exe to remove External Events.
Should it start with Windows?
AMD External Events Utility starts it as a service. It is not a Startup Apps checkbox.
