AdobeARM.exe
Also called adobearm, adobe arm, adobe reader and acrobat manager
Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager updater helper. It checks and applies Acrobat / Reader updates. It is not AcrobatNotificationClient.exe.
What you need to know
AdobeARM is the updater, not AcrobatNotificationClient.
AdobeARM.exe is Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager. It runs the updater UI or helper. AcrobatNotificationClient.exe only shows notices. armsvc.exe is the Adobe Acrobat Update Service that can stay running as a Windows service.
- Safe?
- Yes, from Adobe ARM
- Is it notifications?
- No. AcrobatNotificationClient is toasts
- Same as armsvc?
- No. armsvc is the update SERVICE
What is AdobeARM.exe?
AdobeARM.exe is the updater, not AcrobatNotificationClient.exe. ARM is Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager under Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0. The service binary next to it is armsvc.exe.
What does it do?
It checks for Acrobat and Reader builds and can apply them. It does not draw Acrobat toasts. It is not the collaboration sync helper.
Why is it running?
A scheduled ARM task, a launch of Acrobat, or armsvc kicked the helper. High disk here is often a patch, not a PDF you have open.
Is it safe?
Usually safe when Adobe signed
An Adobe-signed AdobeARM under Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0 is the updater. AdobeARM.exe in Temp is not. This is still not the notification client.
A legitimate copy normally runs from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\AdobeARM.exe
- Updater helper / UI
- Service sibling: armsvc.exe in the same folder
- Not AcrobatNotificationClient.exe
Can I end it?
An Acrobat update can stall
Ending AdobeARM.exe can leave a half-applied Reader or Acrobat patch. Toasts from AcrobatNotificationClient are unrelated.
Can I remove it?
Uninstall Acrobat or Reader, or leave ARM with the product
Do not delete AdobeARM.exe if you still use Acrobat. Uninstall the product from Apps. Deleting AcrobatNotificationClient does not remove the updater.
Should it start with Windows?
Adobe schedules ARM. armsvc.exe can start the helper. This is not a notification Startup app.
Normal resource behavior

Common problems
People end the notification client during an update
Toasts stop. ARM can keep writing. This filename is the updater.
Confused with armsvc
armsvc.exe is the service. AdobeARM.exe is the helper the service or a task launches.
Troubleshooting
Diagnose before you change anything destructive.
Let ARM finish, then open Acrobat Help > Check for Updates
That is this helper. Notification preferences will not resume a stuck patch.
Confirm the path is Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0
AdobeARM.exe here is the updater. AcrobatNotificationClient lives with Acrobat, not in ARM.
